Foundation of Municipal library in Kopřivnice we can already retrace in the second half of 19th century, in the age rich of variety culture activities. For the direct forerunner of contemporary library we can consider culture society called „Vlastimil“, which started its activity in 1892. Municipal Library in Kopřivnice was established because of Municipal Library Law in year 1919 and two years later began its activity. Starting with fiftieth years in the last century the library became more professional and the number of books, readers and also epmloyees grew up. In parallel with Municipal Library was also open another library belongs to Tatra factory ,which served as a public library too. From seventieth till eightieth years in Kopřivnice existed two extensive culture workplaces with large amount of loans, books and also readers. The breaking point in the libraries activities was year 1989. After long – lasting discussion was decided to build up just one uniform library, which was situated on the second and the third floors in The Culture House. The year 1998 was principal in modern history of Kopřivnice librarianship. Newly moved library started its activity last Friday in August and was inaugurated for guests and especially for impatient readers. Late in 1998 the library was equiped by computers complete with internet. That way the Municipal Library was sort between the modern libraries, which have not only culture but also information character. Nowadays the library offers books for adults as well as for children and contains 64 399 books, 126 newspaper and magazines. We can also find here literature, which is written in English, French, German and Russian languages. Among the main services of our library belong e.g. – interlibrary loan, which can provide book loan for readers from any library in Czech Republic, book reservation, on – line catalogue, internet for public – four computers, blue printing, bibliographic services etc. |
